Meet the Doctors

Judith Penski, DDS

Judith Penski, DDS began her career as a professional dancer in New York City. After earning her Master’s degree in dance from NYU, she found herself taking an emergency trip to the dentist when she broke a tooth and needed a crown. Intrigued by the work that her dentist performed, Dr. Penski moved to Washington, D.C. to attend Georgetown University’s School of Dentistry. She graduated in 1983 and started her own practice. Dr. Penski later met Dr. Margaret Irvin, and they became partners in 1993.

Dr. Penski is a member of the District of Columbia Dental Society, American Dental Association, and the Greater Washington Academy of Women Dentists. One aspect of her work that she particularly appreciates, is the nonverbal communication that she engages in with her patients – she draws on her dance experience to help her connect without using words.

Dr. Penski lives with her husband, artist Robin Rose and their daughter Hannah Hope. Dr. Penski enjoys yoga, cooking, gardening, and entertaining friends.

Margaret Irvin, DDS

A native of Washington, D.C., Margaret Irvin, DDS grew up equally passionate about science and art. She studied zoology at George Washington University and later decided to pursue dentistry, a career which would allow her to balance cutting-edge technology with the art of reconstructing smiles, all while raising a family. She graduated from Georgetown University’s School of Dentistry in 1985 and stayed at the school for another year to teach. Dr. Irvin joined Dr. Penski’s office in 1987, and in 1993 they became partners.

Dr. Irvin is a member of the District of Columbia Dental Society, the American Dental Society and the Greater Washington Academy of Women Dentists. She particularly values the opportunity to work with young patients and teach them habits of healthy oral care.

Dr. Irvin is married to her wonderful husband, Adam Levy and has two beautiful daughters, Melissa and Micaela. In her spare time, she likes gardening, cooking, and being with friends and family.

S. Peter Farzin, DDS

Dr. Peter Farzin received his dental degree in 1996 from New York University. He continued his postdoctoral training at NYU, receiving a Specialty in Periodontics in 1999. Dr. Farzin specializes in comprehensive periodontal treatment including implant placement, connective tissue grafting and cosmetic root coverage procedures.

Dr. Farzin has participated in a number of national clinical investigations pertaining to periodontal plastic surgery. His most recent endeavor, in combination with Osteohealth Corporation, included conducting technique-sensitive bone grafting surgeries using Bio-Oss and Bio-Gide bone regeneration materials. The video of Dr. Farzin performing these surgical procedures is now used by Osteohealth as a training tool for other clinicians.

In addition to his practice with Drs. Penski and Irvin, Dr. Farzin travels to Manhattan to continue his long-term relationship with his patients in a general practice there.

Dr. Farzin is a member of the ADA, the Academy of Osseointegration, the American Academy of Periodontology and the American Society of Dental Anesthesiology.

He lives in Maryland with his wife of 15 years and his three lovely children. Dr. Farzin is an avid exercise enthusiast and enjoys playing sports with his active children.

Donna Afshar, DMD

Dr. Donna Afshar received her Bachelor’s degree in Biology in 2004 from University of Southern California. She then moved to Boston to study dentistry where she attended Boston University and graduated magna cum laude in 2009. After completing a one-year general practice residency at Montefiore Medical Center in New York, Dr. Afshar joined a private practice in Queens, NY. In 2012, she moved to Maryland and has been practicing in the area since then.

Dr. Afshar is a member of the American Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, Maryland Dental Association, Greater Washington Academy of Women Dentists and Greater Washington Academy of Dentistry.

Dr. Afshar resides in Bethesda where she enjoys reading, painting and exercising.
